A Practical Solution

January 28, 2013

This analysis by Calev Myers is one of the best I’ve read on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

This practical solution is feasible, practical, and reasonable. And it’s very close to the idea put forward by Naftali Bennet, who got 12 seats in the latest elections, and was unfairly stamped as a radical extremist by the foreign media.

The op-ed by Calev Myers:

Naftali Bennet’s plan:

Don’t Forget To Vote, Israel!

January 20, 2013

On Tuesday there’s election day. We Israelis have an amazing privilege – we are citizens of a democratic country, with many parties and a small population, and whose leadership has a huge impact on world politics.

Unlike the US voter who gets to choose one out of two, we get to choose one out of 34(!!). Unlike the US voter who is 1 out of millions and millions of people, the Israeli is one out of just 7 million (even less, considering the 7 million digit includes kids). Unlike the Belgian or Swedish voter, our leaders, whoever they are, are well known to the entire world, are regular visitors to the White House, and give speeches at the UN that give great impact.

Of all the people in the world who are citizens of a democratic country, the individual Israeli is the one individual who has the most influence on worldwide politics. There is no other individual voter in the world with as much power as you. So why, oh, why, would you give that up???

Go and vote! Yes, even if you are against my views. A high percentage of voters is more important. Indifferent citizens is the worst thing there can be in any country. Go to vote!

This image is a version of the “DFTVA”-campaign that the “vlogbrothers” launched for the American elections (you can find it on youtube). I pitched the idea to make an Israeli version, someone I know did it, posted to her tumblr, and it was reblogged by Hank Green, one of the vlogbrothers. Pretty cool. If the Americans – where each vote is one of many many millions, and you only have two choices – can make a campaign like that, then we Israelis definitely can. Don’t forget to vote, Israel!

“Ofakim is so calm and quiet”

November 16, 2012

When I served in the army, 2001-2004 I served in the South. Around the same area that’s being shelled right now. I had an office-type job, nothing special about it. But one thing I vividly remember from 2002 or 2003 is talking to young high school students from Ofakim on the bus. I made some joke about Ofakim being a “hole in the middle of nowhere”, and they responded “That’s what’s so great. Nothing ever happens here. That second intifada? Bombs in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv. But here? Nothing. Nothing dangerous ever happens to you when you live in a place like this”.

But as we know, following the disengagement of 2005 and the bloody military coup of Hamas in 2007, their rockets now reach more than just Sderot. They reach Ofakim, Netivot, Kiryat Malachi, Kiryat Gat, Beer Sheva, Ashkelon, Ashdod, and Tel Aviv(?). Over a million people (4 million?) living under fire.

And I’m wondering how those high school students of 2002 are doing today. I hope they are safe.

Latest news – Ofakim has been hit. Again.

Psalm 83!

November 15, 2012

Psalm 83:1-18 NASB

O God, do not remain quiet;
Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still. For behold, Your enemies make an uproar,
And those who hate You have exalted themselves. They make shrewd plans against Your people,
And conspire together against Your treasured ones. They have said, “Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation,
That the name of Israel be remembered no more.” For they have conspired together with one mind;
Against You they make a covenant: The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
Moab and the Hagrites; Gebal and Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assyria also has joined with them;
They have become a help to the children of Lot. Selah. Deal with them as with Midian,
As with Sisera  and  Jabin at the torrent of Kishon, Who were destroyed at En-dor,
Who became as dung for the ground. Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb
And all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, Who said, “Let us possess for ourselves
The pastures of God.” O my God, make them like the whirling dust,
Like chaff before the wind. Like fire that burns the forest
And like a flame that sets the mountains on fire, So pursue them with Your tempest
And terrify them with Your storm. Fill their faces with dishonor,
That they may seek Your name, O LORD . Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever,
And let them be humiliated and perish, That they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD ,
Are the Most High over all the earth.

After the constant attack the last few days, our army finally striked back yesterday. Starting with killing Hamas’ own “Bin Ladin”. I don’t have much to say right now, since I’ve written most of what I have to say on twitter.

So if you don’t follow me there yet, jump in and follow “countongod”.

Now I’m on my way to work. Will try to focus on working today. Pray for our soldiers, and for the civilians on both sides.

We are being attacked

November 10, 2012

We are being attacked. Again. A million civilians living under fire. Again. Israeli military just doing a few retaliation attacks against terror centras. Again. Israel continues to supply food and electricity to the terror state that attacks us. Again. Many Israelis are sick and tired of this. Most of us want our military to put a final end to this terror state that we created in 2005. It’s time to stop worry about what the world will say. They will hate us whatever we do in any case. It’s time to stop letting millions of people live under a rain of rockets just to please the EU and the UN. It’s time to rebuild the Jewish community of Gaza that was expelled in the 1920’s. It’s time to rebuild Gush Katif. It’s time to put an end to this nightmare once and for all.

Israel is under a massive rocket attack

June 23, 2012

During the last few days, our enemies have poured rockets over our cities in the South. Mainstream media keeps ignoring it. They are apparently waiting for Israel to retaliate, in order to bring massive headlines with “Israel attacks Gaza”, not letting people know that over a million people are living in fear. All this, of course, a direct result of the decision to bring the front closer, by evacuating the settlements in 2005.

A friend of ours is currently visiting Sderot. She posted this on her Facebook:

We are asking that you would please pray for me and [list of names]. We are in Sderot visiting our friends and we are being SHOWERED upon by missles. The kids are shaken and the rockets are so close we can here the wistle above the house. They shake the house and windows as they go off. This has been happening all night long, and we are not able to leave yet. Please pray for all of our safety. For the safety of all those living in this area. PLEASE PRAY!!! Thank you.

A bit later she wrote:

Thank you SO much for such an amazing payer response from our family and friends. We are still in Sderot. We are doing well and getting ready to leave for home. This morning and last night has been quite a faith building experience for our young family. God is good and always faithful. More thyen twenty rockets fell around us through the night and this morning. We ae doing well, just comtinued prayers fo the kids. [names of two kids] are still afraid that the "brissles" ae going to fall on us. Yet they ae doing well. Thank you all!

This below photo was published by IDF 24 hours ago. Since then there has been another 20 or so rockets:

Please pray for the million people living under constant threat. Read psalm 94. Pray for the Palestinian civilians living too close to rocket ramps and terrorism centers. Pray for Gaza to be liberated from Hamas’ terror regime.

Psalm 94

[1] O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.
[2] Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.
[3] LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
[4] How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
[5] They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage.
[6] They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.
[7] Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.
[8] Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?
[9] He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?
[10] He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?
[11] The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
[12] Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;
[13] That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.
[14] For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.
[15] But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.
[16] Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
[17] Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
[18] When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.
[19] In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.
[20] Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?
[21] They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.
[22] But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.
[23] And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.
